Aronde64

Aronde I (known simply as Aronde) was the king of Kal Torlin some time after the rise of Jair, Lord of the Westland. This was the time during or after King Otto. He ruled from Gwynenthel.

Background[]

It was the beloved King Aronde, who urged Jair to work closely with Lakmir and his acolytes. And it was this legacy that Jair followed, when several seasons later, Aronde passed away and left the throne to Jair.

After the death of the great King Aronde, the succession did not proceed well. With failing health and without an heir, the great King had the presence of mind to appoint a successor: Lord Jair of the Westland.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Aronde may in fact be the N64’s name for the king Otto, whereas Otto was the name given to the king for the PC versions.

In the NES/GBC versions, other than a reference to King Otto’s Fair the king of Stormhaven in those versions is not named.

Alronde chose to make Lord Jair of the Westland his heir. Alternatively it could mean between the years that High Lord Jair fought to defeat Warlock Lord’s minions brought him honor and he was made heir to king of Kal Torlin as well as being heir to Stormhaven and when Jair became king of both, and he consolidated the lands. A third possibility is that Aronde is the son of Otto and brother of Otto’s Daughter, and Jair became king long after Otto died and after Aronde died. The timeline in Shadowgate 64 is somewhat vague on that period. Note: lore for Shadowgate Classic also places the events of that game within Kal Torlin, which confuses the differences between Stormhaven and Gwynenthell, and Otto and Aronde.

Aronde definitely appears to be based or inspired on a similar named king in Beyond Shadowgate.
